English language Challenges

Since I was in the primary school, I had a very good English class in my school. We were not allowed to speak Spanish in the class, and they were very demanding with the language. Since I started to study in University, I don’t have the same level of English, and I only have English classes for half a year. Personally, I think that the blog writing and the videotapes are the only things that allow me to practice properly my English. I consider that I have decent English, but I think that I have to improve my writing and my speaking too, because I have problems with the fluency and I’m forgiving the words constantly.
The English language is a very important tool for a professional in these days. I don’t have decided yet how I’ll improve my English, but I think that I could take some English lessons in an institute, or go to another country and interact with the people in there. I think that the second option is a very interesting way to learn and improve the language, because you have the alternative to go and learn about other cultures, and you are speaking and writing all the time in other language, and you don’t need to travel for a half an hour to arrive to the institute.
The English class is not the only instance that I use to speak English. An example of that is I look the television on English for improve my understanding of the language. I improve my English listening music like rock, always in that language, finding the words or phrases that I don’t know the meaning of them. I like to talk in English with my little brother, and I prefer to read documents in English. All of these things makes me practice and improve my English, because is something that all of us needs on this days.

My future job

Hello, today I’m going to tell you about my career and what I want to do with my life. I’m a public administration student of the University of Chile. I’m in fourth year of my career, and I want to have a public management degree. Today I’m thinking of taking a major of public policy or management audit. I can’t choose one of them because those topics are my favorites, and I would like to dedicate my life to the public policies or the audit of the government services.
If I had to decide for one of those alternatives, I would like to be a public policy analyst, because is something that I would like to help in the future. This job consist in provide advices to the political agents that participates in the approval process of public policies. But I have to be more realistic and think about what jobs can I chose with the Public Administration profession, so I’d like to get a job based in audit of public management.
The aspect that I will consider at the time to chose a job would be the atmosphere in the organization, what characteristic will have co-workers, the location, and obviously, the salary (I want to earn money too).
If someone ask me about my strengths and weaknesses , I would say that I’m good with numbers and I’m a perfectionist man, but also I’m a nice person and I value the good working environment. I have a strong personality and I like to assume responsibilities. But I have weaknesses like I’m not very good asking people for show me their results, and that is an aspect that I have to work in.

How green I am

In general, people don’t have any environmentally friendly practices. Our society doesn’t mind care the world where we’re living. They are too busy to think about it because we only take care about the money and our jobs and responsibilities.
The few people, who care about environmentally friendly practices, learn those practices in their homes and the school when they are young, but nothing else. But today, people who want to learn those habits can use the internet to do it.
Santiago needs some campaigns about the importance of our environment. There are not any TV spots or any authority who want us to take care about of this issue. There are not enough recycling can in this city too, so the people don’t mind to get any conscience about the environmental issue if we don’t see anyone else taking care about it.
I don’t have an environmental friendly culture, but I try to reduce my carbon footprint trying to not abuse of the water, using the paper for the print or photocopies by the two sides, or trying to not drop the biodegradable things into the garbage cans, if it’s not necessary. One day, I tried to put a Coca-Cola bottle into the toilet tank, because you can safe water. I didn’t do it to get a cheaper water bill, I did it because I tried to think in the environment, I promise.
Personally, I don’t join or support any eco-organization, because I don’t know what is required to join them, but I would like to do it someday.

Sports

I’m going to talk you about sports and their benefits. Sports are necessary for the people, because on these days, we are always working and doing things for our labor performance and we don’t take care about our health. Sports are very useful if you want to lose weight and throw off all the stress that you have. Those activities are very good for prevent a several diseases or infarcts.
In our country, we are very fan of one sport: the football soccer. In Chile most of the people know at least something about football and is fan of any professional football club. The second most popular sport in Chile is tennis (but I think that we are fans when someone is very successful in this sport), and we don’t take care about any other sport, even if our country is very successful.
I remember that I’ve always been doing sports. When I was eight years old, I did athletics, then I practiced soccer and in some cases I played basketball. Then, when I was thirteen years old, I started to play tennis and volleyball, and occasionally I practiced table tennis until I finished the school. I started to play rugby since I was eighteen, and it’s very funny sport, but you get really tired with it, and you get a several injuries.

My last vacations

I think that the best place I ever stayed at was Easter Island. It’s a really nice and quiet place to stay in a middle of Pacific Ocean and there are a lot of attractions for someone who visits the island.
There are, for example, two volcanoes you can visit and appreciate the most beautiful landscape of the whole world. One of them is called Rano Kau, and is the ceremonial place of the natives in the island. The other volcano is Rano Raraku, and the crater was a gorgeous place with a lot of wilds horses. Other attractions are the Moais, the statues that were built by the natives of Rapa Nui thousands years ago, and the construction of them is a real mystery. The two beaches are really amazing; they are really quiet, and one of them has pink sand, something very rare, but attractive. The most fun experience in the island is the “Tapati”, a real festival that is a tradition in the island celebrated in February.
Easter Island is more than a recommendable place to visit on vacation; it’s a place where the most people want to visit again once they visited this magical island, especially in the summer.
I went to this island in February this year, after the Tapati festivities. I went with my dad and my two little brothers to a house in Mataveri sector. We visited the two volcanoes, the beaches, the museum, and we went diving and trekking around the island.

A country I'd like to visit

The country I’d most like to go is New Zealand. This country is very interesting and funny at the same time. New Zealand is famous for the Maori culture, the rugby, and the different climates in this island. The public management is very interesting too, because in this country they have really good public services and the people in this country live very well.
I’d like to visit the rugby stadiums and watch some All Black’s matches, play a couple of rugby matches, visit the snow at the mountains, and go to the beaches in the island. But mostly I want to learn about the Maori culture and the public service system that they have.
I’d like to study in this country, because I want to have time to learn about this culture and improve my English. Specifically, I want to study in an MBA or doctorate, because I want to have new ideas about the public management and bring them to Chile to improve the public services in our country.

My experience on last semester

This year, specifically on the past semester, I learned a lot of useful things for my future work life. I had several classes about public management, like formulation and evaluation of projects, planning, and managing of physical and technological resources.

I learned how to create a good mission, vision, strategically objectives and define products or services for an organization. But the most useful things I learned were the tools of management that the public manager uses all the time. Those tools were the ZOPP method, the SWOT analysis, and the stakeholder analysis system. With those practical tools we can know what we will do, how we will do it, and what considerations and cares we are going to take with our stakeholders, limitations and threats we have. We learned to take advantage with the opportunities and strengths of the organization too.

In conclusion, last semester we learned about the basics about managing an organization.
